Open Enrollment

Dear Open Enrollment Families,

Vail Unified School District accepts applications from VUSD parents wishing to have their child attend a Vail school outside of their home school attendance boundary area (In-District Transfer), as well as from parents living outside of the VUSD district boundaries who wish to have their child considered for enrollment in a VUSD school (Open Enrollment).

Open enrollment/transfer applications are considered on an annual basis and a separate application must be submitted for each student each year. Students will be accepted based on space availability at the school/grade/program.

The 2020-2021 online application can be accessed beginning December 1st on the VUSD website under “Our Schools” and then “Registration Information” or through the following link: https://vailschooldistrict.org/our-schools/registration-information/#1454604958106-ad259a8f-9597

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at 520-879-3982 or scanlonp@vailschooldistrict.org.

Lost and Found

Dear Cougar Families–

Our Lost and Found is overflowing! These items will be laid out during lunch for students to claim from December 16th-19th. If your student has lost an item, please send them to come check out our Lost and Found Box before it’s too late. Items that have not been claimed by the beginning of our winter break will be donated to a local charity.

Thank you,

DS Administration

Letter from the Principal

Dear Desert Sky Families,
I am writing to inform you of a gas leak that occurred at school today at approximately 1:00 p.m., resulting in the school being evacuated for approximately 35 minutes.
A contractor was working on installing a new ramp to the fire lane for better wheelchair access on the South side of the school and accidentally hit a gas line.
The Tucson Fire Department immediately responded, followed by Southwest Gas shortly thereafter. The gas was shut off, and once it was determined that the campus was safe, students returned to classes at 1:35 p.m.
Kudos to Desert Sky staff and students for their patience and calmness as we worked through this situation.
All extra curricular activities will proceed as normal today.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Katie Dabney
